The Tessari family has been making wine at its LA CAPPUCCINA estate at Costalunga di Monteforte d’Alpone since 1890. They can be found in the Soave d.o.c. wine zone to the east of Verona - the romantic town of Romeo and Juliet - little more than an hour’s drive from Venice. In the quest for ever greater quality, in 1985 following a devastating frost, under the supervision of BIOS (a Veneto based certification institute), they started farming in line with Organic precepts. This type of cultivation forbids the use of chemical fertilisers, weed-killers and pesticides in order to guarantee healthier, more natural wines, whilst at the same time conserving the environment. The first steps along this new path were taken with the introduction of white varieties: first of all, Trebbiano di Soave, then Sauvignon and also red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère (an ancient clone of Cabernet Franc) and Oseleta (a rare local and ancient variety). Today, the estate is known for its dynamic approach towards its markets worldwide, its ever more diligent quest for quality in all of its activities and its comprehensive development programme.
